MFN Welcomes New Intern David Shonka
The Madison Founders Network welcomes David Shonka, a JMU finance student and aspiring entrepreneur, as our newest intern. Get to know David, from why he joined MFN to his passion for competing in triathlons.

The Madison Founders Network is excited to welcome David Shonka as our newest intern. David is a finance student at James Madison University who hopes to one day build a company that solves a meaningful problem at scale. This semester, he'll help MFN grow its reach across the JMU founder community, with a focus on marketing and connecting with founders. We sat down with David to learn a little more about him.
What are you studying at JMU, and what do you hope to do after graduation?
I am studying finance at JMU. Long term, I want to become an entrepreneur and build a company that solves a meaningful problem at scale. Right now, I am focused on learning as much as I can about business, marketing, entrepreneurship, and what it takes to build and grow great companies.
What interested you in joining the Madison Founders Network as an intern?
I have always been fascinated by entrepreneurship and the process of taking an idea and turning it into a real business. MFN stood out to me because it gives me the opportunity to be around founders, learn from people who are actually building companies, and contribute to strengthening the entrepreneurial community around JMU.
What are you most looking forward to working on this semester?
I am most looking forward to meeting and learning from entrepreneurs while helping MFN grow its reach and impact. I am especially excited about opportunities to work on marketing, connect with founders, and better understand the problems entrepreneurs face as they build their companies.
What's something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I compete in triathlons! I love the challenge of balancing swimming, biking, and running, and it has become one of my favorite ways to push myself outside of work and school.
Please join us in welcoming David to the Madison Founders Network!
